Jesus fasted (Matthew 4:2) and so did the members of the early church (Acts 13:2). Fasting helps to discipline the appetites of the body (Luke 21:34) and keep our spiritual priorities straight. Fasting is an offering of emptiness to show where fullness can be found. It is a sacrifice of need and hunger. Fasting focuses us on God for satisfaction instead of food and other things. The spiritual habit of fasting and praying is available to Christ-followers to strengthen us spiritually and to help us overcome barriers that might keep us from living the victorious Christian life.
Modeling after the early church, we desire for our faith family to consistently fast and pray. We know that when we seek God in this way, we will grow in Him and He we will reward us with greater effectiveness as a church, as families and as Christ-followers (Matthew 16:18). The call and empowerment to expand the Gospel mission was birthed through prayer and fasting for the early church in Acts and for LifePoint in 2004 and 2008. We are asking LifePoint'ers to commit to fast one day each month and to pray for our church during your fast. Here you will find resources to assist you in your fast and a couple of tools for us to encourage each other as a faith family.
Please select a day each month to fast and pray, then share your commitment in the form below. This will HELP encourage other Christ-followers and allow us to communicate to you periodically.
